After Care for Your New Puppy

Nutrition: You will be supplied with good nutritional puppy food at the time of picking up your puppy and will be given instructions on how to feed the puppy.

Exercise: When a puppy is little don't walk it on long walks until about 3 mos. St. Bernardsgrow rapidly and too much exercise too early in life can be hard on the hips. Just walk it on a leash in the yard so it's use to the leash and short training periods are good for it too in the yard. When they are done eating wait until about 30-45 minutes before walking them and exercising them. The stomach can twist and turn and cause serious injury to the dog and even death. Just let them eat and rest. St. Bernards don't do much. They prefer to lay around and watch you move around them. I haven't seen a St. Bernard fetch yet. They don't have a fetch bone in their bodies. To keep them cool in the summer just put a plastic pool outside and watch them have fun with it or even a sprinkler.

Health: Until your puppy has all the puppy shots which will be about 3-4mos. Don't walk your puppy anywhere another dog could have been. If your dog ever comes in contact with an infected dogs urine or feces it could be deadly. One of the infectious diseases is parvo.

Training: This will be a very large dog so don't forget that during the whole training process. Just because of diseases doesn't mean you can't train them proper walking and healing techniques inside your yard. You need to spend 15-20 minutes per day from 8-10 weeks on training your puppy. They need to know commands and manners so that they are used to all sorts of things you need them to do through out their life. A well socialized dog will always be everybody's best friend. You can order a training tape through AKC when you send in the paperwork to register your puppy. I think it is very useful. It is very important to get your dog around children and adults and other dogs that are up to date on their shots as soon as possible.

ENJOY YOUR NEW PUPPY AND YOUR PUPPY WILL ENJOY YOU!
